The recent rumours linking Manchester United with a move for Frenkie de Jong were a bit surprising to say the least. The Dutch international has been believed to be one of the most important players as Barcelona look to rebuild. But now though, it looks like there is hope for a potential deal, if the Red Devils do make a big attempt to bring the midfield maestro to Old Trafford.
A move does make a lot of sense for Manchester United. The club have needed to strengthen in the middle of the park for a while now and someone of De Jong’s quality could prove to be an incredible addition to the side.
For the most part, it has been believed that it would be too difficult to sign De Jong from Barcelona but now, there appears to be an interesting update on the situation.
As reported by El Nacional, Barcelona seem to be open to the idea of De Jong leaving and would not put any obstacles in the way of the Dutchman’s departure as long as their transfer valuation of the player is met. And it is believed that Manchester United have shown the most interest in signing the player.
Manchester United handed boost in race to sign De Jong from Barcelona
De Jong could prove to be excellent signing for most clubs in the world. He first rose to prominence during Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals a few years back.
His run at Barcelona has not been as fruitful as expected although one has to say that he did arrive at a time when the club have been struggling both on and off the pitch.
It remains to be seen if Manchester United do end up making a move for De Jong in the future although if he does leave Barcelona, there is expected to be a lot of interest in his signature.
