Barcelona interested in another Manchester United star

Barcelona have been linked with a number of Manchester United stars in recent weeks and months. Edinson Cavani has been the most prominent among those although Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood have all been rumoured as players that the La Liga giants are keeping an eye on. Amidst all this, it looks like the club might be keen on another player who is struggling for minutes at Old Trafford.

Most people had expected Juan Mata to leave Manchester United last summer but surprisingly, he ended up extending his stay at the club by another year.

It has not quite worked out for the Spaniard though as he has barely played any football for the Red Devils this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 3 appearances this season and featured for 151 minutes of football in total.

And as reported by the Daily Star, Mata is a target for Barcelona once again. They had been linked with the Manchester United midfielder last summer as well.

Barcelona find themselves in a very difficult spot right now. They are out of the Champions League already and sit at 7th in the La Liga. They have also had to change managers once this season already, replacing Ronald Koeman with Xavi.

Unfortunately for the club, they do not seem to be in the financial position at the moment to go out and splash in the transfer market in order to solve their problems.

As a result, players like Cavani and Mata could be solid additions for them at this point of time. It is clear that neither of them are in their primes anymore. But the Manchester United duo have played very little this season and could possibly be available for low transfer fees in January.
