Manchester United’s move for Raphael Varane in the summer was expected to solve all their defensive worries. But things have not quite turned out that way since then. The French World Cup winner has struggled with injuries since his Old Trafford arrival while the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have struggled to rediscover the form that they showed last season.

Now, it must be said that the Red Devils appear to have improved at the back since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager but it would not come as a surprise if they did end up making a move for another centre-back in the future.

Jules Kounde is someone that Manchester United have been linked with in the past and it looks like they have been handed a potential boost.

As reported by ESPN, in the summer, Sevilla wanted the full £80 million release clause for Kounde. But now, they are believed to be willing to negotiate a transfer fee between €50 million to €60 million.

Could Manchester United make a move for Kounde in the near future?

Kounde is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the world right now and has been one of the best defenders in La Liga for quite some time.

If Manchester United did manage to sign a player of his quality, it would be considered as a major coup. But it remains to be seen if they do end up making a move for him.

Rumours in the summer suggested that Kounde was very interested in a move away from Sevilla and with two-and-a-half years left on his current deal with the Spanish side, not many expect him to remain there for too much longer. The race for his signature is not expected to be easy though as several other clubs are believed to be interested as well.
