One area that Manchester United have needed to strengthen in for a while is their midfield. The futures of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek are very much up in the air. Nemanja Matic is 33 years of age and no longer in his prime as a footballer. And while the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay have impressed recently, there are questions marks over their consistency.
Since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as the club’s interim manager, Manchester United have been linked with quite a few players from RB Leipzig, one of the German coach’s former clubs. Amadou Haidara is one such player.
The 23-year-old Mali international has been a regular in the midfield for RB Leipzig and has caught the eye with his performances in the Bundesliga. And if Manchester United do decide to make signings in January, he could certainly be an interesting option to consider.
Haidara has already confessed to growing up as a Manchester United fan. As reported by The Sun, he told Bild:
"“Everyone had a favourite team as a kid. Mine was Manchester United.“But if you want to talk to me about rumours: I’m at Leipzig and I feel good.”"
Haidara makes Manchester United confession amidst transfer rumours
Haidara could be a solid addition to Manchester United’s midfield. Despite being just 23 years of age, he already has significant experience at both club and international level, and might be ready to play for a top Premier League club.
Of course, his connection with Rangnick could help him settle down at Old Trafford quicker as well if a move did happen. The German is set to remain as the club’s interim manager till the end of the season after which he will take a consultancy role for two years.
This is certainly a transfer that could make sense for the Red Devils at this point of time. Now, it remains to be seen if they do end up making a move for the RB Leipzig star next month.
