Jose Mourinho was the last Manchester United manager to win silverware for the club but considering the Portuguese manager’s reputation and record, his run was still a bit underwhelming for the Red Devils. Since then, he has gone on to manage Tottenham Hotspur, for whom he did not win a trophy and then AS Roma, who made a fantastic start to the season but their form has faded away quite a bit since then.
AS Roma are expected to make additions to their squad in the future. And Mourinho’s side have already been linked with a potential move for Diogo Dalot.
Since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager though, Dalot appears to be back in Manchester United’s first-team plans. And while a move to AS Roma was looking like a real possibility a few weeks ago, that might not be the case anymore.
But Dalot is not the only player that Mourinho might have his eyes on. As reported by la Repubblica (via AS Roma Live), Edinson Cavani is another player who would interest the Portuguese manager.
Could AS Roma sign Cavani from Manchester United?
Coming into the season, Cavani was expected to be the leading striker for Manchester United, after a brilliant second half to the 2020/21 campaign.
But a combination of injury problems and the return of Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer have meant that Cavani has not played a lot of football this season for Manchester United. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made just 8 appearances, scoring once.
Thus, Cavani is being linked with a move away from Manchester United. Could a move to AS Roma be on the cards?
That will be interesting to see. The Uruguayan has also been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Juventus recently as well, while rumours about a move to a South American club have never quite gone away completely.
