There is a lot of excitement around what Manchester United could possibly achieve under Ralf Rangnick this season. The legendary German manager has had notable spells at clubs like RB Leipzig and Schalke in the past but there is no doubt that this is the most high profile job of his career till now. And the Premier League giants appear to have made a fine start under his management.

Manchester United put in a brilliant display against Crystal Palace in Rangnick’s first game in charge. And while the 1-0 scoreline might not suggest so, it was a dominant performance from the Red Devils. There was a clear change in collective approach from the players as we saw glimpses of the German manager’s Gegenpressing.

It is harder to judge the second game as the manager named a much changed starting XI against Young Boys, with qualification to the knockout phase already secured. But they still got a 1-1 draw.

There have been suggestions that Manchester United could look to strengthen their squad further in January. But it looks like that might not be the case unless the right player is available. As reported by Express, Rangnick said:

"“My opinion on winter transfers is clear. It needs to be a player who improves the quality, who helps the team to get better.“It needs to be a high-quality player, no matter which area of the pitch. On the other hand, it needs to be a player who, if they were available in the summer, they’re available for similar conditions in the winter.“Then it might make sense. It needs to be the right mentality as well as the right quality.”"

To be honest, Manchester United already have one of the strongest squads in world football, which on paper, is more than good enough to finish in the top four of the Premier League and should maybe even be competing for the Premier League title.

Of course their start to the season has not been brilliant but it appears that things are starting to look up for the Red Devils.

It remains to be seen if Manchester United do end up adding to their squad in January or not. The most important thing for them now though is to keep building on their new found momentum and continue their climb up the Premier League table.
