Manchester United have one of the deepest squads in world football, especially going forward. Thus, there are quite a few players who have not played a lot of football this season. And as a result, they might be looking to depart the club in the upcoming January transfer window. Anthony Martial appears to be one such player.
The Frenchman was one of the most highly-rated talents in world football when he arrived at Manchester United and many believed that he had the potential to go on to become the best player in the world one day.
He has shown glimpses of brilliance throughout his time at Old Trafford. He was brilliant in the 2019/20 season and was the club’s top scorer. He has struggled since then though and finds himself out of the starting XI, with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho appearing to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
Thus, it should not come as a huge surprise that he wants to leave for regular football somewhere else. As reported by Sky Sports, his representative Philippe Lamboley said:
"“Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.“He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”"
Martial wants to leave Manchester United in January
Martial has not played regular first-team football for Manchester United for a while now and it does look like a move away might be the best option for him at this stage.
He has not been able to fulfil the expectations that he arrived with but still, he has had a solid run at the club. And if he was to leave, the Frenchman would not be expected to have any lack of options.
Martial turned 26 years of age just recently and already has plenty of top level experience under his belt. There is no question about his talent either. The only thing that he needs to do is find some consistency.
