Manchester United have been one of the top spenders in European football in recent times. It was just in the summer transfer window that they signed players like Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo. And that has been the case for a while. The results on the pitch have not been able to match the magnitude of their moves though.

But with Ralf Rangnick now at the club, as the interim manager till the end of the season and then in a consultancy role for two years, Manchester United’s transfer policy might possibly end up changing.

As reported by Independent, Manchester United have expressed an interest in Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger. The German international’s current contract with the Blues is set to run out next summer, and it looks like talks over a new contract have stalled.

It appears Real Madrid are leading the race for his signature though, although Bayern Munich are also believed to be involved. The feeling is that Rudiger wants a move abroad if new terms cannot be agreed with Chelsea. That would be a worry for Manchester United with regards to the possibility of any deal.

Manchester United are believed to be interested in Rudiger

Other than Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur are also rumoured to be showing interest in the defender. Antonio Conte is their manager right now, and it was during his time at Stamford Bridge that Chelsea had signed Rudiger.

Before Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Chelsea, Rudiger was struggling for game time and was believed to be on his way out of the club. He has been rock solid under the German manager though, playing a huge part in their Champions League win last season.

With Raphael Varane joining the club from Real Madrid last summer, Manchester United might not need a centre-back urgently. But if a player of Rudiger’s quality is available on a free transfer, they should definitely see if a deal can be done.
