Coming into the campaign, many believed that Edinson Cavani was going to be the first-choice striker at Manchester United. He had enjoyed a brilliant second half to the 2020/21 campaign after a slow start at Old Trafford. At the top of his game last season, he was very much looking like one of the best strikers in world football and scoring consistently. But with Cristiano Ronaldo completing a return in the summer, he has found opportunities hard to come by recently.

And while Ronaldo looks like the first-choice striker at Manchester United right now, Cavani has not been helped by his injuries either, having to spend significant time on the sidelines.

Just when it had looked like he was picking up some form, he was sidelined with a tendon injury and has been out of action since then.

But there appears to be some good news for Manchester United as the Uruguayan has posted pictures of himself back in training with the group. Cavani tweeted out:

Cavani has given an exciting Manchester United update

It is safe to say that Cavani returning would be a massive boost for Manchester United. While 34 years of age, he has already proven that when on form, he is still a magnificent goalscorer and can be the difference maker in big games.

He is definitely a great option to have. And with Ralf Rangnick coming in as interim manager till the end of the season, it will be interesting to see how much football Cavani gets when he is fully fit.

Admittedly, he has not had the best season till now and only found the back of the net once in this campaign, but Cavani still has a lot to offer to this team.

It must also be pointed out though that there have been rumours linking him with a move to Barcelona.
