Manchester United showed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit door a few weeks earlier, after almost three years in the managerial hot seat, after a disappointing start to the campaign that had seen them slip down to 8th in the Premier League table. Since then, Michael Carrick has had an impressive run as the club’s caretaker manager and now, Ralf Rangnick has been brought in as the interim manager till the end of the season.
Rangnick is set to take a consultancy role with the club for two years when his run as interim manager comes to an end and is expected to ring in a few changes.
Carrick, almost unexpectedly, decided to leave the club ahead of Rangnick’s arrival. He had been a coach at Manchester United since the time of Jose Mourinho as manager and the expectation was that he would continue in a similar role.
As a result, it was clear that Rangnick needed to make some backroom additions and he has done just that. Fabrizio Romano tweeted out that the Manchester United interim manager has confirmed that Chris Armas is set to join the club as assistant coach and Sascha Lense as sports psychologist.
Rangnick has confirmed backroom additions to Manchester United
Armas has a lot of experience having managed New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC in the past. Unfortunately, none of those stints were very successful for the American coach.
On the other hand, Lense has been the sports psychologist of clubs like RB Leipzig and Schalke in the past among others.
It is safe to say that both look like moves that Rangnick has had a huge hand in. And it is good to see that Manchester United are backing the interim manager. Now, it remains to be seen if he can bring the season back on track and turn this into a successful campaign.
