Amid the excitement surrounding a potential turnaround under the management of Ralf Rangnick, Paul Pogba’s contract situation at Manchester United remains a concern for the club. The Frenchman’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, and he is free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract with clubs outside of the country from January. At the moment, there is a good possibility that he could leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

Manchester United must want to keep the French midfielder in their ranks beyond this season rather than see him walk out as a free agent.

But the club is yet to reach an agreement with the player over a new deal, making the situation difficult for them.

While Pogba’s future is far from certain, there is also a feeling that he might not be a perfect fit in Rangnick’s system of football. Thus, the club might look to make an addition in the middle of the park in the future.

Manchester United linked with a move for Frenkie de Jong

As reported by El Nacional, Manchester United are interested in bringing Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford. Rangnick has always been known for signing young players and thus, signing someone like the Dutch international would fit that philosophy.

Manchester United are believed to be willing to shell out €55 million but that is a figure that Barcelona would not even consider accepting having signed De Jong for €86 million in 2019. His current contract at the Spanish club runs till the summer of 2026 and he is viewed by Xavi as an integral part of his squad. Thus, it is going to be very difficult to get a deal done for the Dutch midfielder.

During his Ajax days, De Jong played alongside Donny van de Beek. And both players share the same agent. At this moment, a move feels highly improbable. But never say never in football.
