Manchester United have made it a habit to bring back legends to Old Trafford in recent times, in a variety of roles. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a return to the club as the manager and was doing a decent job for a long while before things ultimately did not end up going his way and he was shown the exit door. Michael Carrick also returned to the club in a coaching capacity during the time of Jose Mourinho and stayed there until leaving very recently.

On the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo made a return in the summer and has looked like he never left, scoring important goals and winning games even at the age of 36.

Could there be the possibility of a behind the scenes return in the future for Edwin van der Sar, who is the current chief executive at Ajax?

Van der Sar appeared to hint that he would be very much open to the possibility of an Old Trafford move if the opportunity was there. As reported by Manchester Evening News, when asked about the possibility of a Manchester United return in the future, he told RTL7:

"“I am enjoying myself so much at Ajax, I still have two years left here. I want to keep achieving things here with the club.“But I am sure that one day the moment will arrive.”"

Could Van der Sar make a Manchester United return in the future?

It is safe to say that Van der Sar has done a tremendous job ever since becoming the chief executive at Ajax in 2016.

During his time in the role, they have become an European force once again. It was just a few years ago that they made an unlikely run to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. And this season, they have looked brilliant once again, winning all six of their group stage games in the competition, sealing their place in the knockout stages in dominant fashion.

Could a Manchester United return be on the cards for Van der Sar in the future? That is something only time can tell. But he is doing his chances no harm with his performance at Ajax.
