Manchester United find themselves in a sticky spot right now but it does feel like they are headed for a fresh start. Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure, they have certainly steadied the ship. Under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, they got two wins and a draw in three games. And now, Ralf Rangnick has arrived as the club’s interim manager and is set to stay in the role until the end of the season.
The club’s minimum target must be getting back in the top four and then, in the title race if they can. While that is going to be tough, with the squad that they have, it is certainly not impossible.
After his run as interim manager comes to an end though, Rangnick will take a consultancy role with the club for two years.
One rumour that has been doing the rounds recently is that there is a clause in his contract that would see him get €10 million if he can convince Erling Haaland to join Manchester United. Rangnick decided to rubbish the rumour recently though. As reported by Manchester Evening News, the interim manager said:
"“€10m for Erling Haaland, €10m for Kylian Mbappe, €10m for Robert Lewandowski and €10m for Joshua Kimmich…“This is nonsense obviously. There is no such clause in my contract. It doesn’t make sense to speculate over any new players .”"
Could Manchester United make a move for Haaland next summer?
A release clause is believed to become active in Haaland’s contract with Borussia Dortmund next summer and as a result, most of the top European clubs are expected to try and make a move for him. Manchester United are no different.
Haaland has been absolutely superb over the past couple of years and his numbers since joining the Bundesliga giants are extraordinary. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old has scored 71 goals in 73 appearances for Borussia Dortmund till now.
If Manchester United could sign Haaland, it would be considered as a massive coup on the part of the club. But it is not going to be easy at all, as there is expected to be heavy competition for his signature.
