Things are starting to look up for Manchester United. Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure, they have two big wins against Villarreal and Arsenal, and an important draw against Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge. All of them came with Michael Carrick as the caretaker manager of the club and now Ralf Rangnick is set to come in as interim manager, and he would be expected to bring his all-action, intense pressing style of football along with him.
Rangnick will remain in the managerial hot seat until the end of the season before taking a consultancy role for the next two years. On the other hand, Manchester United will look to bring in a long-term manager next summer when more options are available.
Thus, Rangnick’s stint in the Old Trafford dug out looks set to be a short one and many expected the Red Devils to keep together most of their backroom staff even with the German coming in.
But almost out of the blue, Michael Carrick has decided to leave Manchester United. Fabrizio Romano tweeted out:
Carrick: “My time at this great club will always rank as the best years of my career. I have decided that now is the right time for me to leave the club. I would like to wish Ralf Rangnick, the staff, the players and the fans all the best for the future”. 🔴🤝 #MUFC

Carrick has decided to leave Manchester United
Carrick had a legendary playing career with Manchester United and had been in a coaching role with the club for quite some time as well, since when Jose Mourinho was manager.
Most people expected him to remain in a coaching capacity even when Rangnick arrived but it looks like he has decided to make a change.
Carrick’s stint in charge of the team was short but it was certainly impressive. He had three very difficult games to navigate the Red Devils through and did so in brilliant fashion. Nobody could have asked for more from him.
Now, the focus will turn towards Rangnick and what he can do with the team. A top four finish looks well within reach and a few good results might even get them back in the title race.
