Manchester United made the surprising signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus in the last summer transfer window. It bolstered their attacking options to a great extent. But the Portuguese superstar’s arrival was a short-term fix upfront rather than a long-term solution that the club must be looking for in the future.

Since returning to Manchester United, Ronaldo has been in fine form for the Red Devils and he even played a huge role in them booking their place in the Champions League knockout phase. While he has brought his scoring boots to the Theatre of Dreams, other forwards in the squad have received less playing time since his arrival.

Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani are two of the notable names, whose game time appears to have been affected by Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United. The Uruguayan’s current deal is set to expire next summer. On the other hand, Martial has been linked with a potential move to Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.

Thus, considering all the possibilities and uncertainties of the future, Manchester United might end up needing to make a move for a centre-forward soon.

Manchester United keeping an eye on River Plate’s Julian Alvarez

As reported by CalcioMercato, Manchester United are interested in River Plate’s Julian Alvarez. But they are not the only side in the transfer race for the Argentine star. The likes of Manchester City, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Real Madrid are all believed to be keeping an eye on him.

Alvarez recently played a huge part in River Plate becoming the league champions of Argentina. He was nothing short of brilliant and even topped the scoring charts. And some rumours have suggested that a transfer fee around €20 million could be enough to sign him.

At just 21 years of age, Alvarez is a huge talent to say the least and it is not hard to understand why Manchester United might be interested in his signature.
