Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure, Michael Carrick has served as the caretaker manager of Manchester United. And all things considered, he has done a solid job. First he oversaw a 2-0 win away in Spain against Villarreal which saw the club book their place in this season’s Champions League quarter-finals. And then, he got a 1-1 draw against Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge.

But Carrick’s run is set to come to an end soon with the club appointing Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager until the end of the season, after which he will take a consultancy role.

It is safe to say that there is quite a bit of excitement surrounding the move. It is unclear though when the German manager will first take charge of the team. Manchester United’s official website has confirmed that Carrick will remain in charge of the first team until Rangnick’s work visa is finalised.

Also, as reported by the Mirror, Carrick, as well as coaches Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna, are expected to be kept on in their roles although Rangnick will also be introducing some of his own coaches to the club.

Carrick’s Manchester United coaching future revealed

Carrick has been at Manchester United in a coaching capacity for a while now and of course, before that he enjoyed a legendary playing career as well.

He has certainly showed some promise, especially with his recent stint as the caretaker manager and as a result, keeping him at the club is the best step moving forward.

Now, it remains to be seen if Rangnick can come in and turn this season around, and hopefully, deliver some silverware. There is certainly the talent in this current squad to do that. It is just about getting the best out of them. And that will be the biggest task facing the legendary German manager.
