While nothing is official yet, Ralf Rangnick is expected to become the Manchester United interim manager soon. He looks set to get that role for six months before taking a consultancy role for the next two years, while the Red Devils look for a long-term solution in their dug out next summer, following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent departure after spending almost three years in the Old Trafford hot seat.

One of the most highly regarded and influential managers in modern football, it is not hard to understand why there is a lot of excitement surrounding Manchester United’s potential appointment of Rangnick.

The German shaped the Gegenpressing philosophy, which has brought a lot of success to a number of managers in recent times. And he also popularised the idea of zonal marking.

On the other hand, it appears that Rangnick might be looking forward to his time at Old Trafford as well. As reported by the Daily Mail, the manager is understood to be excited at the prospect of working with and improving Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in particular.

It will be very interesting to see how Rangnick does at Manchester United if the move does end up happening.

While he has had notable spells at clubs like Schalke, RB Leipzig and others before this, there is no denying the fact that Manchester United would be the most high profile job of his storied career till now.

His style of football has already proven to be a success in the Premier League, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool using it while Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea have elements of it in their system as well.

But the big question would be, do Manchester United have the players to do that. We might find the answer very soon.
