The winds of change could be blowing around Manchester United. After a disappointing start to the season that sees them sitting at 8th in the Premier League table right now and already out of the League Cup, the club decided to show Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit door. And it appears that they are moving quickly to bring in an interim manager, with rumours suggesting that Ralf Rangnick has agreed to join the club.

Of course, that could be a solid appointment on the part of Manchester United. The legendary German manager has influenced the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann and many others, and helped shape Gegenpressing.

Of course, that style of football is based completely on intensity and pressing, winning back the ball from the opposition as quickly as you can. Liverpool play in that fashion under the management of Klopp.

That could be worrying news for Cristiano Ronaldo, who has done well since arriving in the summer but is clearly not a natural fit in Rangnick’s style of football.

Rangnick appointment could be a worry for the Manchester United superstar

While questions have already been raised about Ronaldo and his fit in this Manchester United team, there is no question about the fact that he has played a huge part in them getting to the UEFA Champions League knockout phase this season, probably the only silver lining of their campaign as of now.

Rangnick’s style of football would not fit Ronaldo though, who is not a frequent presser of the ball and at 36 years of age, that should not come as a surprise.

The Portuguese star is still in phenomenal shape though and a brilliant goalscorer, and if Rangnick’s appointment does end up happening, it would be interesting to see how the manager handles the Ronaldo situation and fit him into his plans.
