Coming into the season, Manchester United were expected to challenge for the Premier League title. The club had finished second in the previous campaign and had added Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton to their squad over the summer. It is safe to say that things have not gone as the fans would have envisioned till now and the Red Devils find themselves in a tricky spot.
The only silver lining to this campaign has been the fact that they have already qualified for the Champions League knockout phase. In the Premier League, they sit at 8th and are already out of the League Cup as well.
It is safe to say that it was not much of a surprise when Manchester United decided to part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the 4-1 defeat against Watford last weekend. The Norwegian had been walking the managerial tightrope for a while.
Now, Michael Carrick is the caretaker manager and Manchester United are looking to bring in an interim manager till the end of the season. And it appears that they have a former Borussia Dortmund manager in their sights.
Manchester United have made contact with the former Borussia Dortmund manager
As reported by The Telegraph (via The Sun), the Manchester United hierarchy have reached out to Lucien Favre regarding the vacant Old Trafford job.
It is believed that the club could be looking at Favre as a potential interim manager who can steady the ship and guide them till the end of the season, after which they will think about a long-term appointment.
While best known for his spell at Borussia Dortmund, Favre has also managed clubs like Borussia Monchengladbach, Nice, Hertha Berlin and some others in the past, in a managerial career that started back in 1991. And with the amount of experience he has, he could be a solid choice to be the Manchester United interim manager.
