Manchester United and Chelsea have had completely different seasons up until now. While the Red Devils sit at 8th in the Premier League table and have already shown Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit door, Thomas Tuchel’s side are top of the Premier League, have already booked their spot in the Champions League knockout phase and are in the League Cup quarter-finals as well.

But going into the game between the two sides at Stamford Bridge this weekend, Manchester United have a lot of cause for optimism. They put in a terrific performance in midweek to book their place in the Champions League knockout phase as well, following a 2-0 victory against Villarreal.

It was one of their best performances of the season. On the other hand, while Chelsea might have gotten a 4-0 victory against Juventus, they have big worries.

N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell had to be brought off, with the left-back suffering a serious injury that could possibly keep him out for the rest of the season. On the other hand, the French midfielder is believed to have twisted his knee and is expected be a doubt for the game against Manchester United.

Chilwell has been one of Chelsea’s most important players this season and missing him could have huge implications on their Premier League title challenge. On the other hand, Kante’s absence will be a worry for them as well, with Mateo Kovacic already out injured. And at the moment, they have several other players out of action or just returning from injury as well.

Thus, this could be a big opportunity for Manchester United to get a result against Thomas Tuchel’s side, although it will definitely not be easy by any stretch of the imagination.

Let’s see how things play out when the two teams meet but it promises to be a close game.
