It looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as the Manchester United manager is set to come to an end soon with rumours suggesting that the club have decided to part ways with the Norwegian following their 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford. To be honest, he had been walking the managerial tightrope for a while after the Red Devils’ disappointing start to the campaign, that sees them sit 7th in the Premier League table.
Now, the focus will turn towards bringing in a new manager. The club could go for an interim solution for the time being, but finding a long-term answer as soon as possible would be preferable.
The club have been linked with several names in recent weeks with regards to the Old Trafford hot seat. And it looks Zinedine Zidane is not the only former Real Madrid manager in their sights.
As reported by The Athletic, current Sevilla manager, Julen Lopetegui, is a potential option for Manchester United.
Manchester United are considering move for Lopetugui
Lopetegui did not have a successful time at Real Madrid and was shown the exit door after a few months in the role. But since then, he has resurrected his reputation as a manager at Sevilla and done a terrific job with the Spanish side, who are putting up a La Liga title challenge this season.
As a result, it is not hard to see why Manchester United might be interested in a potential move for Lopetegui, who has also managed the Spain national team, FC Porto and Rayo Vallecano in the past.
It remains to be seen how things turn out for Manchester United. The Red Devils have also been linked with the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino and several others in recent times. Whoever ends up coming in will have a huge job on their hands of turning this season around.
