Manchester United enjoyed a brilliant transfer window, bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton. But one thing that they failed to do is bring in a midfielder. As the season has progressed, that has appeared to be a mistake and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could certainly do with another option in the middle of the park.
Paul Pogba enjoyed a sensational start to the season but has faded away since then. Donny van de Beek has barely featured. Nemanja Matic is 33 years of age and no longer in his prime as a footballer. And there are still question marks surrounding the partnership of Fred and Scott McTominay.
Thus, it might be a good idea for Manchester United to sign another midfielder in the near future. And it looks like they have a Real Madrid player in their sights.
Federico Valverde finds himself in a tricky situation at Santiago Bernabeu at the moment. And as reported by El Nacional (via Mirror), Manchester United are prepared to table a £60 million (€70 million) offer for the Uruguayan midfielder.

Not too long ago, Valverde was considered as one of the most important players at Real Madrid and someone who could be a constant in their team for the next decade or so.
But as we all know, things can change very quickly in football. With the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro showing no signs of slowing down, and Eduardo Camavinga now at Real Madrid as well, Valverde is already being linked with a potential move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Someone like Valverde can prove to be a tremendous signing for Manchester United. He has shown brilliant potential while at Real Madrid and can be a long-term replacement for Pogba, whose current deal at Old Trafford runs out next summer.
