Manchester United’s defence has been a big worry for them for a long time. But when they signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in the summer, it was believed that he could turn the Red Devils into one of the best defensive sides in the Premier League and form a great partnership with Harry Maguire. That has not turned out to be the case though, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have continued to struggle at the back.

Varane has had his injury problems while Maguire has struggled with his form. Neither Aaron Wan-Bissaka nor Luke Shaw have looked at the top of their games either. As a result, Manchester United have managed to keep just two clean sheets till now this season, while they have conceded more goals than any other team in the Premier League top ten at the moment.

It is clear that some change is needed. And while Varane’s arrival might not have had the desired effect yet, could they end up making a move for another French defender in the future?

Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana is someone who has been linked with the club in the past and he has admitted that Manchester United are one of the clubs that make him dream. As reported by Leicestershire Live, he said on Twitter spaces with Actu Foot:

"“A club that makes me dream? There are Marseille, Real Madrid, Barça.“In the Premier League, there are Chelsea, United, City … But you have to work to make your dreams come true. Through work, you can achieve anything.”"

Fofana could be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

Fofana has been out of action with an injury for some time now and it is safe to say that Leicester City have felt his absence and have not been nearly as good as they were last season.

Fofana might still be just 20 years old but he has already proven his quality in the Premier League and was absolutely brilliant for the Foxes last season.

As a result, naturally, he has been linked with a move away and rumours have suggested that the transfer fee required to sign him could go as high as £80 million. It remains to be seen what happens regarding that matter, but it is safe to say that if Manchester United were able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup.
