When Manchester United signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in the summer, it was expected to solve their defensive problems and turn the Red Devils into one of the best backlines in the Premier League. It is safe to say that that has not been the case, as they have kept only two clean sheets throughout the course of the season and conceded more goals than any other team in the top ten right now.

Varane has had his struggles with injuries, Harry Maguire looks out of form, Eric Bailly is yet to make is mark in OIe Gunnar Solskjaer’s team and Phil Jones has not played senior football in a long time. Thus, Manchester United might have to make another addition at centre-back in the near future.

One player that they had been linked with before making the move for Varane is Jules Kounde. And now it looks like they might reignite their interest in the Sevilla defender.

Real Madrid are also believed to be involved in the Kounde transfer race but Manchester United appear to have one massive advantage over the Spanish giants. As reported by El Nacional, Sevilla prefer to let one of their stars join a foreign club, rather than strengthen a La Liga rival.

Kounde could be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

Kounde is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in world football right now and has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in La Liga over the past few years.

Thus, the interest in his signature is not unexpected. Kounde had looked like he was headed to Chelsea in the summer but that move failed to transpire.

But most people expect the French international to depart Sevilla sooner or later. And when or if that happens, it looks like Manchester United will be in the race to sign him.
