Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, Luis Enrique, Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are just some of the names who have been linked with the Manchester United job in recent weeks. And it is not hard to see why considering the start that the Red Devils have made to the 2021/22 season, as they currently sit at sixth in the Premier League. As a result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford is pretty much up in the air right now.

It is clear that Manchester United are reluctant to part ways with the Norwegian. Not only is he a club legend, but he has also been the manager of this team for almost three years now.

It would be very difficult to find a manager whose strengths complement that of the squad that Solskjaer has assembled at Old Trafford over the years, especially in the middle of the season. It does look like Manchester United have identified their top choice though.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, club figures have been impressed by Ten Hag and Enrique. But Rodgers has been provisionally identified as the most suitable successor to Solskjaer.

Rodgers appears to be Manchester United’s top choice to replace Solskjaer

It is not hard to see why Manchester United might be interested in bringing Rodgers to Old Trafford. He has done a tremendous job during his time with Leicester City, guiding them to an FA Cup and a Community Shield, while also narrowly missing out on a top four spot in both his full seasons with the club.

But then, rumours have suggested that he is not keen on leaving Leicester City and joining Manchester United in the middle of the season.

The situation might be similar when it comes to a lot of managers and as a result, the Red Devils might have to wait until the end of the season to make a change in the managerial hot seat. Of course, a lot will depend on how the season turns out under Solskjaer from here on.
