Jadon Sancho’s start to life at Manchester United has been far from ideal. The Red Devils had been linked with him for years before finally signing him this summer from Borussia Dortmund. The English international was expected to come in and immediately make the right wing position his own in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI. It is safe to say that that has not happened.

Sancho is yet to either score or assist for Manchester United. And recently, he has found himself on the bench often, not even making a substitute appearance against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Of course, most would have expected him to take some time to adjust to English football. But even then, his start at the Theatre of Dreams has been underwhelming.

And now, it appears that another thing did not go his way upon arriving at Old Trafford. And that is his jersey number.

As reported by The Athletic (via Mirror), Edinson Cavani was said to have been ‘put out’ at being asked to give up the number seven shirt for Sancho.

It appears that Sancho had been promised the number seven shirt during negotiations with Manchester United back in the summer of 2020. Since then though, Cavani had arrived at Old Trafford and made it his own, putting in some spectacular performances in the second half of last season.

Ultimately, Sancho went ahead with the number 25 shirt. But Cavani did not hang on to the legendary number 7 shirt for much longer either with Cristiano Ronaldo making his return to Manchester United this summer. As a result, the Uruguayan now wears the number 21 shirt.

At the moment, Sancho’s shirt number is the least of his worries though as he has struggled since joining the club and needs to find his feet at Old Trafford as soon as possible.
