Manchester United have not had the perfect start to the season, having already lost 4 out of their first 11 matches of the Premier League campaign as they sit at sixth in the table. Amid the disappointing run of results, it is clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have problems in quite a few areas, one of them being their midfield.

The Norwegian manager has played the duo of Scott McTominay and Fred in the middle of the park often. But many have questioned whether that is the right move.

The club were expected to bring in a defensive midfielder over the summer, with Nemanja Matic being the most natural option there. And thus, Manchester United got linked with a number of midfielders, with AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni being one of them.

A move did not ultimately materialise though, neither for Tchouameni nor any other midfielder. But sooner or later, Manchester United will have to make an addition there.

Tchouameni comments on transfer rumours amid Manchester United and Chelsea links

As reported by L’Equipe (via Metro), Tchouameni said:

"‘When I started in Bordeaux, the media were already wondering every summer if Aurelien Tchouameni was going to move to a bigger club.‘In 2018, they were already talking about Juventus or Milan.‘I know for a fact that what is true in October is not necessarily what’s true in June. If I start to think that I’m going to leave, it will show directly in my performances on the pitch.’"

Tchouameni has established himself as one of the most promising prospects in French football over the past few years. He has been one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1 for a while now and has made quite a few appearances for the France national team as well as the sky looks like the limit for the 21-year-old.

With his recent performances and Manchester United’s need to strengthen in the middle of the park, it should not come as a surprise to anyone that the Red Devils have been linked with the rising French star.

But the race for his signature is not expected to be easy at all. Other than Manchester United, he has already been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and quite a few other big clubs around Europe.
