Manchester United’s start to the season has left a lot to be desired. And once again, one of their biggest issues has appeared to be their defence. The Red Devils have managed to keep just two clean sheets till now in the current campaign and if not for the incredible performances of David de Gea in goal, who looks back at his best, things could have been much worse for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

When the club signed Raphael Varane in the summer, it was believed that his signing would turn Manchester United into one of the best defences in all of Europe.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were coming off of brilliant seasons, while the defensive side of Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s game has never been in question. On paper, along with Varane, it had the potential to be a brilliant backline.

Unfortunately, things have not quite turned out that way. And it looks like Manchester United could be needing more additions at the back. Could they end up making a blockbuster €80 million move in January though?

Manchester United linked with potential move for Jules Kounde

As reported by AS, Sevilla will know that it would be almost impossible to keep Jules Kounde at the club beyond this season but there is also a feeling that a club like Manchester United could offer his €80 million release clause in January itself and sign him.

Kounde is still just 22 years of age but he has already established himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga for a while now.

He came very close to joining Chelsea in the summer but ultimately, a move did not materialise. Now, the question is, could Manchester United end up making a move for him?

While a move for a player like Kounde cannot be ruled out in the future, it does feel unlikely that the Red Devils would make such a huge move in January. But never say never in football.
