Manchester United find themselves in a very difficult spot at this point of time. They are in the middle of a bad run of form and naturally, questions have been raised about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the club. There were expectations that the Red Devils would challenge in the Premier League title race this season but it is safe to say that they have fallen well short of expectations till now.
They are already out of the League Cup and sit at sixth in the Premier League table. Perhaps the only silver lining till now this season has been the fact that they sit at the top of their Champions League group till now and are in a strong position to qualify for the knockout phase.
As reported by ESPN, results in Europe this season are a key reason behind Manchester United’s decision to stick with Solskjaer as manager.
Last season, the club were knocked out from the group phase of the Champions League itself but at the moment, they seem like heavy favourites to make it into the knockout phase of this season’s competition.
Results in Europe are a key reason Solskjaer remains Manchester United manager
Manchester United’s performances in Europe this season have been interesting to say the least. While they sit in a very good position in their Champions League group at the moment, it does not mean that they have been brilliant in the competition.
In fact, it is very possible that they could have lost all four of their group stage games this season till now if not for the brilliance of David de Gea in goal and Cristiano Ronaldo in front of goal.
De Gea has kept them in games single handedly at times. On the other end of the pitch, Ronaldo has scored late goals in three straight Champions League games to either hand Manchester United a win or a draw.
