Paul Pogba’s Manchester United future has been a topic of discussion for quite some time now. The French midfield maestro remains a big part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team plans but his current deal at Old Trafford runs out next summer. And it does not appear that he is close to signing a new contract at the moment, meaning that it is very possible that he could leave as a free agent in the near future.
It is safe to say that that is not what Manchester United fans would want to see despite the fact that there have been a lot of questions about Pogba’s recent performances.
He started the season in brilliant fashion, providing four assists against Leeds United on opening day, and was almost unplayable for the first few weeks. But his form has faded away since then and he has even found himself on the bench at times recently.
Rumours have always surrounded Pogba and a potential Old Trafford exit. But now, some surprising news has emerged regarding his Manchester United contract situation.
Manchester United declined the chance to sign Pogba to a new deal in 2019
As reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United declined the chance to sign Pogba to a new deal in the summer of 2019 after the French World Cup winner had made a personal approach to the club.
Thus, the narrative that Pogba has been looking for a way out of Old Trafford for years, appears to be incorrect.
But it remains to be seen what the future holds for Pogba at Manchester United. His 2021/22 campaign has already been filled with ups and downs, and at this point of time, he does not find himself in great form.
There is no question about his talent or potential though and on his day, Pogba is one of the best midfielders in Europe. Thus, if was to leave Manchester United in the future, especially as a free agent, there is not expected to be any lack of suitors.
