Manchester United managed to mount a comeback in the Champions League once again. They came from behind twice to get a 2-2 draw against Atalanta and put themselves in a great spot to secure qualification to the next phase of the competition. But, the performance on the night did leave a lot to be desired and there are a few worries heading into the next game, against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s side have not made the start to the season that they would have envisioned either and find themselves in third in the Premier League table, five points off the top. And if Manchester United manage to beat them, they will be on the same number of points.

That would be incredible, considering how many questions have surrounded the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in recent times.

There is a massive worry though. And that is the injury that Raphael Varane picked up in the game against Atalanta, as he had to be substituted off before half-time. While speaking on BT Sport and as reported by the Mirror, Paul Scholes said:

"“Maguire just doesn’t look right and I don’t wanna say it again, with no Varane, Saturday has to be a worry.”"

Manchester United have had their worries in defence this season

It is safe to say that Manchester United have had their worries in defence through the course of the current campaign and have only managed to keep two clean sheets till now. And if not for the magnificent form of David de Gea in goal, they might have ended up conceding many more goals than they already have.

Varane had only returned from an injury recently but looks set to spend time on the sidelines once again after being forced off the pitch against Atalanta.

It remains to be seen what the extent of the injury is but it is safe to say that it will be a huge worry heading into the game against Manchester City.
