Manchester United star compared to Michael Jordan
Manchester United have not had the best start to the 2021/22 campaign and have failed to meet expectations that the fans would have had coming into the season. There is no denying that. But there have been some signs of hope recently that they can turn this season around and get back in the title race. The biggest of them is the form of Cristiano Ronaldo.
When Ronaldo sealed a comeback to Manchester United in the summer, there were a lot of questions about whether he could still get it done in the Premier League at the age of 36. It is safe to say that he has already shown that he can.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Ronaldo has scored 9 goals in 11 appearances for Manchester United this season. Those are brilliant stats for any player and it looks like he is only getting better as he settles into this team.
In three straight Champions League games, he has scored late on to hand Manchester United a win or a draw. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has compared the Portuguese legend to Michael Jordan. As reported by Sky Sports, the manager said:
"“We’re not happy conceding two goals – but he does provide those moments and I’m sure the Chicago Bulls didn’t mind having Michael Jordan either.“Sometimes teams have the players they have and that’s why they are Manchester United, that’s why they are champions at the Chicago Bulls. You just come up with those moments.”"
Can Ronaldo guide Manchester United to titles this season?
It is safe to say that there is a tough road ahead for Manchester United this season. They are in a strong position in their Champions League group but sit at fifth in the Premier League table and are already out of the League Cup.
Thus, it could be very difficult for them to lift silverware this time around. One must also point out that Manchester United have not won a trophy over the past four seasons and last did so when Jose Mourinho was the manager of the club.
But with Ronaldo playing like this, fans have hope for the future. Let’s see how things go from here on though.
