Despite Manchester United’s unsteady start to the season, it is safe to say that they have one of the most talented squads in world football. So much so that many good players have struggled to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s playing team consistently despite the club’s recent run of form. One such player is Donny van de Beek.

When the Dutch midfielder arrived from Ajax in the summer of 2020, he came with a lot of expectations behind him as many felt he could go on to be a major part of this Manchester United team for years to come.

Van de Beek had shown tremendous potential during his time with Ajax, proving himself in both the domestic league and in Europe. It is safe to say that things have not quite worked out for him since joining Manchester United though.

And Rio Ferdinand has advised him to leave the club. While speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel and as reported by Manchester Evening News, the Manchester United legend said:

"“Sometimes it just is timing when you’re there and it’s the ability to gel with what’s there at that time as well.“If it ain’t all clicking together, then you’ve got to get on your bike and that’s what if I’m Donny van de Beek I’m off, there ain’t no talking to me.“I know, listen. I love Donny because he’s a humble kid, man, but I’ve got to be honest for you, if I was looking after him, he wouldn’t be there still now. He’d have been gone.”"

A move away from Manchester United could be the best step for Van de Beek

There is no question that Van de Beek has a lot of potential and talent. He has already shown that during his time at Ajax. But things have not just fallen into place for him at Manchester United.

He has spent the majority of his time sitting on the bench recently and has even struggled to get substitute appearances in recent times, despite putting in some good performances when he has been on the pitch this season. As a result, a move away from the club might be the best step for him at this stage of his career.

If the Dutch midfielder was to leave Manchester United soon, which many expect him to do, there is not expected to be a lack of interest in his signature as he is still highly-rated around Europe.
