Manchester United are currently dealing with a number of problems. First of all, there is uncertainty around Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at the club. Also, the defence has struggled to keep oppositions at bay, and that remains a huge concern as well. And amid all this, the midfield still looks unsettled.
When it comes to the midfielders, Solskjaer has quite a few options but has not quite found the right combination yet. It is the trio of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Fred that has earned a place in his starting line-up most weeks recently.
It has resulted in some other midfielders not getting the playing time that they might be looking for though. Donny van de Beek is one such player.
Following a disappointing first season at Old Trafford in 2020/21, the Dutchman’s struggles at Manchester United have continued this season as he finds himself on the bench for the majority of the time. As a result, it is believed that he is looking to leave the club in the near future.
Van de Beek linked with January move to Barcelona from Manchester United
As reported by SPORT, Barcelona have always had an eye on Van de Beek and could try to bring him to Camp Nou in January. It would most probably have to be a loan deal with some clause included though, considering the current financial circumstances.
Van de Beek was one of the most highly-rated young players in world football during his time at Ajax and departed the club to join Manchester United for a transfer fee believed to be around £35 million in the summer of 2020.
It is safe to say that things have not gone as he must have envisioned as Van de Beek has spent the majority of his time sitting on the bench. As a result, a move away from Old Trafford could be the best step for his future.
