Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will know that he has a short amount of time on his hands to turn the season around for Manchester United. They have failed to match expectations at the start of the campaign. Many viewed the Red Devils as title contenders this time around along with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, but at this point of time, they find themselves sitting at seventh in the Premier League table.
Manchester United are also coming off of a historic 5-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford, a game that will be talked about for years. And while rumours swirled around about Solskjaer being shown the exit door after the result, the club have decided to stick with him for the time being.
There is no denying that they have made a lot of progress since the Norwegian was appointed as the manager. But now, the question is whether he is the right man to take this team forward.
Solskjaer has promised though that he will not let these last few weeks define his storied career at Manchester United. As reported by the Independent, he told Sky Sports:
"“My 18 years at the club are not going to be defined by these few weeks because I have had ups and downs as a player, ups and downs as manager and as a coach in the reserves.“This is what we do at the club and for me that’s not the time… I always make sure I fight back.“I am not going to let a period like this define me. Yeah, I will go all in now for a result on Saturday and that is the only thing we can do. We need a reaction, we need a result.”"
Solskjaer will need to turn around Manchester United’s season quickly
Solskjaer will not be helped by the fact that Manchester United have some very tough fixtures coming up. Over their next three games, they will face Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta and Manchester City. And games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Villarreal are not far away either.
It is safe to say that this run of games could end up having a huge impact on Manchester United’s 2021/22 season.
This team and the Norwegian manager have shown in the past that they are capable of bouncing back from a bad result. In fact, they have appeared to be at their best when they have their backs against the wall. It remains to be seen how they react this time around.
