Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains the Manchester United manager at this point of time despite a disappointing start to the season and their recent 5-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford. It is understandable why the club might be reluctant to make a change this early in the season and the Norwegian has been given time to turn things around.

Of course, the upcoming run of games will not help matters. Over the next three matches, Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta and Manchester City.

Thus, it is safe to say that the club must be prepared for all possible scenarios and they might have very little choice but to part ways with Solskjaer if results do not improve in the near future.

Several managers have been linked with the Manchester United job in recent times in case Solskjaer ends up getting sacked. And now, it appears that there is a new top contender to be the club’s next manager.

Brendan Rodgers appears to be the top contender to be the next Manchester United manager

As reported by ESPN, the club are prepared to bring in a manager from within the Premier League if they do make a change and Brendan Rodgers is a potential replacement for Solskjaer.

It appears that Rodgers is ahead of Antonio Conte at the moment, with there believed to be doubts about whether the Italian is the right fit for Manchester United.

It is safe to say that Rodgers has been absolutely brilliant since becoming the Leicester City manager. He has guided them to a FA Cup and a Community Shield. The Foxes have also competed for the Champions League spots in both of his two full seasons with the club, despite narrowly missing out on both occasions.

There will be questions about whether he would be open to leaving Leicester City in the middle of the season. He has done so in the past when he was with Celtic though.

Of course, all of this depends on how Solskjaer’s side performs moving forward and if they manage to bounce back, Manchester United will most probably not make a change in the managerial hot seat.
