Ever since re-joining Manchester United from Juventus in 2016, Paul Pogba has divided the opinion of the fans. At times, he has been in brilliant form and looked like one of the best players in the world. At others, he has struggled. One thing that has been constant for a while though is the fact that he has been linked with a possible Old Trafford exit.
The Frenchman’s contract with the club runs until the summer of 2022. That means that he will be able to walk out as a free agent at the end of this season if he does not end up agreeing to a new deal by then.
Expectedly, there have been a lot of rumours regarding Pogba’s Old Trafford future. Some have suggested that he could be on his way out. Others have suggested that he is open to staying.
There does not appear to be any update on the situation though. When asked about a new deal for Pogba, Mino Raiola told The Times (via Daily Mail):
"‘You would have to ask Manchester United about it. At this moment everything is calm. There is no update.’"
Pogba’s Manchester United future seems to be up in the air
If Manchester United fail to agree to a contract extension with Pogba before January, then the World Cup-winning midfielder would be free to sign a pre-contract with another club before leaving as a free agent in the summer, if he decides to do so.
European giants like Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be interested in Pogba’s signature, especially if he becomes a free agent next summer.
Pogba enjoyed a terrific start to this season, providing four assists in the opening game of the Premier League campaign against Leeds United and then playing some sublime football in the following weeks but has failed to keep performing at that level recently. And as questions surround his future, one has to wonder how much longer he will remain at Manchester United.
