Manchester United find themselves in a very tough situation right now. They have lost five of their previous nine games across all competitions, are already out of the League Cup and sit at seventh in the Premier League table. This is nowhere near what the expectations were coming into the campaign and it is no surprise that questions are being asked about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

There were rumours that he could be sacked after the 5-0 defeat against Liverpool but Solskjaer remains in the managerial hot seat and has been given some time to bring things back on track.

It is clear though that he needs to change things up if he is to turn this season around for the Red Devils.

And giving players who have not played a lot this season, more chances, might be a good place to start making those changes.

Lingard was nothing short of incredible during his half-a-season loan spell at West Ham United in the second half of the previous campaign.

During that period of time, he was one of the best and most consistent performers in the Premier League and played a huge role in the Hammers finishing sixth in the points table ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

His recent performances for the England national team have also earned him a lot of praise. But he has not been able to get regular minutes for Solskjaer’s Manchester United team.

He has managed to make an impact on several occasions this season after coming off the bench but those strong displays have not translated into starts yet.

As Manchester United have struggled to find the right balance going forward recently, it might be a good time to give Lingard a run.
