Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will remain the Manchester United manager for the time being and has been given some time to turn things around. It is understandable why the club are reluctant to part ways with the Norwegian manager. The club has shown a lot of progress since his arrival and also, he has built quite an impressive squad over his near three-year run in the managerial hot seat.
Naturally, it would be difficult to find another manager whose style of football would complement the current Manchester United squad, especially in the middle of the season.
But, if the results don’t improve over the coming games, the club might have no other choice but to make a change. And one man who has been most heavily linked with the role is Antonio Conte.
There have been questions raised about whether Conte would be the right fit for Manchester United. But it looks like the Italian has identified nine players who he can build this team around. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Mirror), the nine players are Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Raphael Varane, Alex Telles, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
Conte has identified nine players to build Manchester United around
Conte is not known for becoming manager of teams in the middle of seasons. But it is believed that he would be open to the Manchester United job. The quality of the squad could be a huge reason for that.
Despite their disappointing start to the campaign, there is no denying that Manchester United have one of the best squads in world football right now.
On the other hand, Conte is one of the best managers in football, having won five league titles over his last seven seasons, with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan. Thus, it would be considered a major coup if the club are able to appoint him.
Of course, for the time being Solskjaer remains the manager and the best case scenario would involve him turning this season around, rather than Manchester United having to make a change at this stage.
