Manchester United suffered a historic 5-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday in the Premier League. The game will not only have a huge impact on the title race but will be talked about for years to come as well. And it could possibly have an impact on the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer too.

Following an outstanding summer transfer window where they signed Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Tom Heaton, Manchester United were touted to be potential challengers for the Premier League title this season.

And having made a solid start to the season, it looked like that was indeed the case. But over the last few weeks, Manchester United’s performances have gone downhill.

In the last nine matches matches across all competitions, they have lost five times. Also they have slipped down to seventh in the Premier League table when they were sitting at the top not too long ago.

Gary Neville makes huge Antonio Conte claim regarding Manchester United

If Solskjaer is shown the exit door in the near future, Antonio Conte has been heavily linked as a possible replacement for the Norwegian in the Manchester United managerial hot seat.

Gary Neville has continued to back his former teammate though and does not feel that Conte would be the right fit for Manchester United, saying that the Norwegian deserves more time. While speaking with Sky Sports and as reported by Manchester Evening News, he said:

"“Jose was the best manager in the world and couldn’t do it. I wouldn’t bring Conte in to United. He’s not a fit for United.“I might be wrong but I don’t think that he is. I think it would be wrong to sack Ole today. I sacked a manager after six games last season, it was the wrong thing to do, I should’ve let things breathe.”"

Conte is one of the best managers in Europe right now. There is no doubt about that. And he is without a club as well. There have also been suggestions that he would be open to taking the Manchester United job in the middle of the season.

But there are certainly questions about whether the current squad at Old Trafford is the right fit for the style of football that Conte’s sides have been known for playing over the years. That is certainly up for debate.
