It is safe to say that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finds himself in a tricky situation right now. Coming into the season, Manchester United were expected to be in the middle of a Premier League title race after signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton over the summer. That has not turned out to be the case till now though.

Right now, Manchester United find themselves sitting at seventh in the Premier League table and are coming off of a historic 5-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, at Old Trafford. Not many would have expected that to happen despite the Red Devils’ disappointing form.

Over the last few weeks, rumours suggested that the Manchester United board had their full faith in Solskjaer and were ready to back him for the time being. The Liverpool result appears to have opened up discussions about his future at the club though.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, managing director Richard Arnold is understood to have cancelled all appointments on Monday in order to hold talks with Glazer about Solskjaer’s position although a decision about the manager’s future is yet to be made.

Could Solskjaer be on his way out of Manchester United?

It looks like it is the manner of the defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s side that has opened up conversations. The 5-0 scoreline just showed how far away this Manchester United team are from some of the elite teams in the Premier League right now.

We have seen in the past though that they are capable of turning heavy defeats into positives. Last season’s 6-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur is the perfect example of that.

Fans would be hoping that the club can repeat the trick this time around as well although the future of Solskjaer in the Old Trafford managerial hot seat seems unclear at this point of time.
