Coming into the season, one of the most interesting things at Manchester United was the goalkeeping situation. After a disappointing performance in the Europa League final, many fans had thought that David de Gea was bound to depart in the summer, with Dean Henderson becoming the long-term number one between the posts. It is safe to say that things have turned out quite differently.

De Gea has put in some incredible performances early on in the campaign and it appears that he has very much reclaimed the number one spot in the goalkeeper pecking order. On the other hand, Henderson finds himself struggling for first-team minutes.

As a result, there could indeed be a shake up in the goalkeeping ranks at Manchester United. But it could actually see Henderson departing the club instead of De Gea.

As reported by The Times, Henderson will consider a loan move in January if it becomes clear that he won’t play much. It must also be pointed out that Borussia Dortmund were linked with the goalkeeper last summer.

Could Henderson end up leaving Manchester United on loan in January?

Henderson had returned to Manchester United after a successful loan spell at Sheffield United last season and with De Gea struggling for form, he had managed to overtake the Spanish goalkeeper towards the second half of the campaign.

And thus, many had expected him to retain the first-team gloves after his strong performances last season. But with a bad run of luck, with injuries and other issues, Henderson remained out of the picture early on in the campaign.

On the other hand, De Gea has looked like a player revived and is playing some of the best football of his career right now despite the fact that the club have kept just a single clean sheet till now. He might very well be Manchester United’s best player this season right now.
