Manchester United shelled out an initial transfer fee believed to be around £35 million in order to sign Donny van de Beek from Ajax in the summer of 2020. He was viewed by many to be the club’s marquee signing of that transfer window and someone who would go on to have a big future at Old Trafford.
But things haven’t worked out for the Dutchman like most fans would’ve expected or wanted. Since arriving at the club, he has never quite been able to nail down a spot in the starting XI and right now, finds himself on the bench for the majority of the time.
As result, it should not come as a surprise that he is being linked with a move away from Manchester United. And several clubs are believed to be interested in the Dutch midfielder if he was to indeed leave in the near future.
Some rumours had suggested that a move back to Ajax might be on the cards but Fabrizio Romano has tweeted out that there is nothing going on between the two clubs regarding Van de Beek, although there are huge chances for him to leave Manchester United in January:
There’s nothing going on between Ajax and Manchester United for Donny van de Beek. Rumours about a potential comeback in January are considered ‘fake’ by all parties involved as things stand now. 🔴 #MUFC #Ajax

Btw, there are ‘huge chances’ for Donny to leave Man Utd in January.
Donny van de Beek could leave Manchester United this January
Van de Beek scored a goal on his competitive debut for Manchester United but he played only 1,456 minutes of football over 36 appearances across all competitions in his first season with the club, according to stats from Transfermarkt.
This season, minutes on the pitch have appeared even more difficult to come by for Van de Beek and he has found himself sitting on the bench for the majority of the time. Interestingly, he has managed to impress whenever he has featured this season and physically, looks better prepared for English football.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise that he is already being linked with a Manchester United exit. Clubs from England and around Europe are expected to have an interest in Van de Beek’s signature.
