Manchester United need to improve significantly if they are to challenge for trophies this season. That is very clear. The comeback 3-2 win against Atalanta must have been a huge confidence booster for the players as well as the manager but it is not nearly enough. Over the last eight games, the Red Devils have lost four times, won thrice and drawn once.

Currently they sit at sixth in the Premier League and are already out of the League Cup. And while they might be top of their Champions League group with six points, it must be said that things are very much still open with away games against Villarreal and Atalanta still left to be played, both of whom are on four points each right now.

The balance of this team just does not feel quite right at the moment. Despite the tremendous amount of talent going forward, they have struggled in front of goal at times.

While they showed how good they can be in the second half against Atalanta, there has not been any consistency in that regard. And Solskjaer has been told by Frank McAvennie to start Edinson Cavani, even if it means less football for Mason Greenwood.

Solskjaer has been told to make a huge Manchester United decision

While speaking with Football Insider, McAvennie said:

"“They want to build these young players and I get that.“But you can’t tell me Cavani is any worse than these guys, he’s the out and out striker Man United need.“He’s one hell of a player, you can’t argue with him. Greenwood is a future star, for me.“He’s good, yes, but is he better than Cavani? I don’t think so. Martial is another one.“How does he get games for Man United? If Ole wants to win he needs to start Cavani.“He’s a proper striker, a proper handful for defenders.”"

Greenwood has arguably been the best player going forward for Manchester United this season till now, cropping up with important goals.

Also with Marcus Rashford now back and playing brilliantly, Cristiano Ronaldo finding the back of the net consistently, while Jadon Sancho has not hit top form since arriving at Old Trafford, it is hard to see how to start Cavani and drop Greenwood while getting the combination right.

One thing is for sure though. Cavani is still a brilliant striker and needs to play more football for Manchester United than he has this season till now. Now, it will be up to Solskjaer to figure out how he can do that.
