It goes without saying that the start to the season has not been good for Manchester United. At the moment, they find themselves sitting at sixth in the Premier League table, already five points behind league leaders Chelsea. The Red Devils are also out of the League Cup but have managed to turn it around in the Champions League and sit at the top of their group after back-to-back wins.

The comeback 3-2 win against Atalanta must have been a huge confidence boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side although now it will be important to build on it.

Manchester United’s form has been very disappointing in recent times. After some bright signs early on, they have struggled. Over the past eight games, they have lost four times, won thrice and drawn once.

As a result, questions have been raised about the future of Solskjaer as the Manchester United manager although there have been suggestions that the club are behind him and will continue to back him. And it looks like the players are the same.

Bruno Fernandes reacts to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Manchester United exit rumours

As reported by Metro, when asked if he and the Manchester United squad back the manager, Fernandes told TNT Sports:

"‘Of course, obviously, he is our coach.‘We follow him every day. We show that. We follow his ideas and we will continue to do so.‘We believe in our coach and our staff… we need to do what the coach tells us because our coach is the maximum exponent of what we must respect.‘He has been here for three years and we’ve done good things. It’s true that we haven’t won anything up to now, but the team has shown it has grown a lot.‘We have a lot to improve on and the coach also knows there has to be some improvement at their end but that is part of football. Every day we are learning something new. But football is the present and it’s the now.’"

There is no denying the fact that Manchester United have improved a lot during Solskjaer’s time as the club’s manager.

Following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, the club had bounced around the Premier League table for several years. The Norwegian manager has brought some stability in that regard as they have finished third and second in his two full seasons with the club respectively.

Now the big question is whether they can build on this and go on to become a trophy winning side once again. At the end of the day, Solskjaer is yet to guide this team to silverware during his time as the club’s manager. That could prove vital to his future at Old Trafford more than anything else.
