Questions have been raised about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United with the club making a disappointing start to the season. As things stand, they are sixth in the Premier League, out of the League Cup already and third in their Champions League group. That is not the start that most people would have expected, especially after signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton in the summer.
Recent rumours have suggested that the club still have faith in Solskjaer and will continue to back him. But if things don’t improve in the future, they might have very little choice but to make a change.
And one of the names who has been heavily linked with the Manchester United managerial job in recent months is Antonio Conte. The question is, would he be interested in joining the Red Devils?
It seems like he would be. In fact, it appears that he has already rejected an offer from Newcastle United and is waiting for an offer from Manchester United. As reported by Area Napoli (via The Sun), journalist Fabio Santini said:
"“Antonio Conte has refused an offer from Newcastle.“The reason? He is waiting for a call from Manchester United.”"
Conte could be a brilliant manager for Manchester United
Conte has already proven himself in English football, having won the Premier League and the FA Cup over his two seasons with Chelsea.
There is no doubt that the Italian is one of the best managers in the world right now. Over his past seven seasons as a manager, he has won five league titles, with three different clubs – Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
And even more impressively, none of those sides were favourites when he arrived there. That is a very similar position that he would find himself in if he did end up becoming the Manchester United manager.
He is not the only one being linked with the role though in case Solskjaer is shown the exit door in the future. Zinedine Zidane is another manager whose name has been brought up recently.
