It goes without saying that Manchester United’s start to the season has left a lot to be desired. Things had appeared very positive early on and at one point of time, the Red Devils were sitting at the top of the Premier League table. Since then though, a disappointing run of results have meant that they have slipped down to sixth within a short span of time and questions have been raised about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
There is no doubt that the club have made tremendous progress since the arrival of Solskjaer as manager. He has brought some much needed stability and in his two full seasons, they have finished third and second respectively.
But Solskjaer is yet to guide this team to a trophy. And that definitely has to be their next target. Many fans doubt though whether the Norwegian is the right man for the job.
Manchester United definitely appear to believe so. Solskjaer was handed a new contract earlier this summer and it looks like the club are ready to back the manager.
Manchester United’s plans for Solskjaer revealed
While speaking on his YouTube channel and as reported by The Peoples Person, Fabrizio Romano said regarding the situation:
"‘From what I’m told the position of the club is the same as two weeks ago, three weeks ago, four weeks ago, they are with Solskjaer, they are still backing the manager and they want to protect him.‘So as of now, Manchester United are not talking to any other manager. They want to continue with Solskjaer, to give him some time, to improve on the tactical side, the technical side of the team, because of course what is going on now is not of Manchester United’s level.‘But they want to continue with this manager, that’s why they extended his contract in the summer.’"
It definitely looks like the club still have a lot of faith in Solskjaer and are hopeful that he is the right man for the Manchester United job.
And to be honest, he deserves it. For years, Manchester United had bounced around the Premier League table failing to consistently finish in the top four, following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Solskjaer has come in and definitely brought an end to that. And hopefully, Manchester United will rediscover their form once again in the near future and compete with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the title race this season.
