Manchester United have one of the best squads in the Premier League without any doubt. On paper, they definitely seem good enough to compete in the title race this season. But their performances till now have not been great at all and as a result, they now sit at sixth in the Premier League points table.

Despite that, there are quite a few talented players at the club who have not gotten their chance to shine this season.

Donny van de Beek is certainly one of them. He did not come off the bench in Manchester United’s 4-2 defeat against Leicester City, and worryingly for the Dutch midfielder, that has become a common occurrence this season.

Thus, he has been linked with an Old Trafford exit multiple times already and Gary Neville believes that he needs to go somewhere else to play his football. As reported by Manchester Evening News, the Manchester United legend said:

"“Why’s Donny van de Beek not being given a chance?“There’s something about that. He’s not been given a chance for 18 months so you’ve got to come to the conclusion that Ole didn’t sign him or he doesn’t fancy him.“Neither is good for Donny van de Beek so I think he needs to go and play football somewhere.”"

Van de Beek has struggled to break into the Manchester United starting XI

When Van de Beek arrived at Manchester United, he was one of the most highly-rated young talents in all of Europe. At that point of time, many believed that he could go on to be a regular feature for the Red Devils for years to come.

It is safe to say that that has not been the case at all. The Dutch midfielder struggled to make his mark in his first season at Old Trafford and has found himself spending the majority of his time sitting on the bench.

One could argue that he deserves to play a lot more than he has. When given the chance to feature this season, he has impressed. And with Manchester United’s midfield not doing great at the moment, it would be interesting to see him get a run in the team and see how he does.
