Manchester United are seemingly going through a transition both on and off the field at the moment. It was not too long ago that they appointed John Murtough as the club’s first football director and Darren Fletcher as their first technical director.

And later on, it was confirmed that Ed Woodward, Manchester United’s long-standing executive vice-chairman, would step down from his role at the end of the year.

Woodward has been with the club for over a decade-and-a-half. Thus, it will be very important to get the right replacement for him.

With the date of Woodward’s departure coming closer, the club appear to have settled on his replacement. As reported by The Sun, Richard Arnold will be named as the club’s new executive vice-chairman when Woodward steps down and will become the main man answering to the Glazer family. An official announcement is not expected until nearer the end of the year though.

Richard Arnold set to replace Ed Woodward at Manchester United

Arnold has been at Manchester United since 2007 when he first joined the club as a commercial director and he was promoted to the position of a managing director in 2013. Thus, he will be very familiar with how things work at Old Trafford as well, having been there close to a decade-and-a-half himself.

Arnold has been Woodward’s right-hand man for a long time which is expected to make the transition even more easier for him.

Off the pitch, changes are certainly taking place at Manchester United, slowly but surely. On the pitch results have left a lot to be desired recently though.

Heading into the season, Manchester United were expected to compete for the Premier League title. But they currently find themselves sitting at fifth in the table and could slip down further if results in the upcoming games do not go their way.
