Manchester United’s start to the season has not matched the expectations coming into the campaign. They have slipped down from first to fourth in the Premier League over the past few weeks, are already out of the League Cup having been knocked out by West Ham United and are in a tricky spot in their Champions League group as well as they sit at third.

That is a bit disappointing considering the incredible summer transfer window that they had, signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton.

The focus now must shift towards keeping the players already at the club though. It is believed the club are looking to extend the contracts of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard.

Of course, the most urgent is the contract situation of Pogba, who is in the final twelve months of his current deal. The Frenchman remains a massive part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side but has been linked with an Old Trafford exit several times over the past few years.

Pogba could leave Manchester United on a free transfer next summer

As reported by ESPN, Barcelona have been offered Pogba on a free transfer next summer. He is out of contract at the end of the current season and it looks like Mino Raiola is sounding out Europe’s biggest clubs regarding a possible move.

Pogba is 28 years of age and in his prime as a footballer right now. Thus, this is probably his last chance to get a big move elsewhere and there is expected to be a lot of interest in the Frenchman’s signature, especially if he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

There have been some suggestions that he could be open to staying at Manchester United beyond this season but it looks like Pogba is keeping his future options open at the moment.
